We are ONE. We are a federally qualified health center in one of the nation's most diverse cities -Houston, TX. We provide culturally and linguistically appropriate comprehensive health services to the community of southwest Houston and beyond. To most adequately serve our patients, regardless of where they come from, we speak over 30 languages in-house. This year alone we have served patients in over 55 different languages.
Asian Americans are now the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States. Through civic engagement, this trend could shape American politics and society in powerful ways in the coming decades. This population has a diverse spectrum of youth engagement, ranking as both the ethnic group least likely to engage in politics and most likely to donate to charitable causes according to a study by the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement.
Asian American Family Services wants to fund the Butterfly Group which helps develop relationships between parent and child through education and recreational activities. The program helps prepares both parents and children when the children go to elementary school. It is also a joint literacy program where the refugee parents learn about American culture as well as English.
